2009 -2010 Scholarship Information and Requirements:
This scholarship in the amount of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) has been established in memory of Katie Hammontree Whitlow (NWHS ’99). The scholarship will be given to the one (1) student who best personifies the same spirit of grace and love with which Katie lived her life. Although the requirements listed below are important and must be fulfilled in whole by the applicant, the final determination as to who will receive the scholarship will be determined during a face-to-face meeting between the qualifying applicants and the Katie Hammontree Whitlow Fund board member(s).
The moneys granted to the winner of this scholarship are to be used exclusively towards either tuition expenses or supplies (i.e., laptop computer) necessary to attend the chosen college or university.
Scholarship Requirements
· Minimum GPA (unweighted): 3.0
· Church attendance (actively involved in youth group)
· Member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) or comparable organization
· Interest in pursuing degree in the Creative or Liberal Arts field (ex.: Fashion Design/Architecture/Literature/etc.) at either a private or public institution of higher learning
· Community service involvement (example: Big Brother/Big Sister program or volunteering at a nursing home)
· Essay describing the applicant’s personal testimony (minimum 750 words)
Please submit all qualifying document for application regarding this
scholarship to the NWHS Counseling Office.
Any and all questions regarding the details and requirements of this scholarship fund should be directed to the NWHS Counseling Office.
The deadline to apply for this scholarship is March 1, 2010.
The decision regarding which applicants will sit down for a face to face interview will be made by April 1, 2010.
The final decision regarding the recipient of the scholarship will be
made by May 1, 2010.
